Resilient Flooring Care

Preventative Care Tips:

  • Place mats at entryways to prevent tracking in dirt from outside. Avoid mats that have a rubber backing. This may damage or discolor your flooring.

  • Leave your shoes at the door!  Be sure to wear slippers or socks.  Your feet have oil on them that will transfer onto the floor.

  • Use protectors under your furniture that are made of a hard plastic or felt.

  • After installation, check with your Floors To Go expert or the manufacturer to see how long you should wait before the first cleaning.  It is usually at least 3 days.

  • Remove dirt, sand, and dust by first vacuuming.  Use a vacuum without a beater bar as this may scratch your floor.

  • Occasionally, use a mop with warm water for further cleaning.  Water only is best  -  or use a cleaning product that is recommended by the manufacturer or your Floors To Go expert. Many detergents can leave behind a sticky residue.  Detergent that is left behind on floors will act like a dirt magnet and allow dirt to build up. If you'd like to use a detergent, make sure it is a mild cleanser that rinses clean.

  • Never use an abrasive cleanser or scrubbing pad on your resilient floor.  These will leave scratches.

  • Clean spills immediately to prevent staining.

  • The following items can cause permanent stains on vinyl so be careful not to get them on your floor: Mustard, ink, permanent marker, asphalt, shoe polish, mold, mildew and hair dye.  If you do get one of these on your floor, try a non-abrasive scrubbing pad.

Black heel marks?  Spray a little WD40 on a cloth and wipe off the marks.  Then clean the area with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse clean.
